CPU spikes Help wanted.

SOLVED

Hi,
A few builds ago I suffered from CPU spikes. (Purple bar).
I fixed it by allowing multithreading ("3" in player JSON).

They have come back in a big way with the arrival of my new OSW wheel (IONI based Small Mige).
At first it seemed the same symptoms as before but I read the known issues doc and saw that some wheel controller software can't handle the fast update rate. So I applied the "skip Update" hack by lowering it to 2 (30%).

It initially made a big difference.
However in the only 2 races I have attempted both grids had 32 or so cars. I had the big CPU spikes with the purple bar maxing out and things dropping out of real time, mini freezes occurring.

I have good FPS usually 110-140.

Today I went into BIOS and disabled "AMD Cool n Quiet" and also lowered the update rate further by using "3".
It seems to have helped a bit on a server solo and with 1 driver but I haven't had a chance to try with a big grid yet.

Any suggestions as to more things to try would be very welcome.

My system:

AMDFX 6100 6 Core 3.3 ghz
8 gb ram
MSI HD7850 card.
ASrock 990 FX Motherboard

Look for hyper threading in bios amd turn it off. For me problem was cpu cores running at different voltages. So anything like power savimg or turbo modes that may affect core voltages may be the issue.

One of my mate's had a similar problem with his OSW by deleting the controller json then letting it make a new one fixed it.

Update:
Turned off Cool n Quiet, and
Created new controller JSON,
no change so far.

I also downloaded MSI Afterburner. All cores seem to be working well 70-80%, no temp issues.

Off to try the switch off hyperthreading suggestion.

Bottom line it was dust.
A very dusty CPU heat sink and GPU and all other surfaces.

Turning off cool n quiet may have helped a little, but dusting the little fella seems to have fixed it. Big relief here.
For good measure I capped FPS at max 100 for more stability and les GPU load.

I have just had a Multiplayer session with 8 drivers and this would have killed it B4. CPU bar sat stable at 75%. :).
