CPU upgrade

Bogboy

Hi looking for a bit of advice ?
I have a Asus P5N32_E sli mother board, socket lga775,with a intel P8500 core 2 duo CPU @3.15 ghz.
What would be my best CPU upgrade choice i dont want to change the mother board !

For rFactor 2: you can't do a meaningful upgrade using the same motherboard. Since rFactor 2 currently only uses 2 cores, a quad core won't give any performance increase. In fact, your E8500 may be faster in rFactor 2 than the Q9505 Mitt Wilson proposes.
The cheap option: buy a decent CPU-cooler and overclock your E8500 to 3,8-4,0 GHz (easy!).

The more expensive option: new motherboard, ram and a decent Core i5-cpu...

Unless you've got a special version it doesn't, or if it does it only utilizes two cores worth. rFactor2 is only coded to use two cores. Something else might be going on that is using using those cores but rF2 isn't coded to handle that yet.

Actually, my I7 980 utilize all six cores in rFactor2...

But none of them goes above 33% (6 cores / 2 thread), am I right?

The best CPU you can buy (without wasting a lot of money for a 5% increase) is the i5 series. If you plan to overclock (and you should) go for the k series. Or if you don't have the budget a stock i3.

Stay away from the AMD, especially the new FX series since it's very slow for 2 thread applications like rFactor 2.

The best comparison is the Skyrim (another 2 thread application) CPU chart.

I bought the I7-980 to be able to enjoy the advanced WW1 sim "Rise Of Flight" in it's full glory as it eats fpu calculations for breakfast and fast level 3 cache for dessert

It is a bit over the top for this sim...

I recently switched from a C2Duo E6850 and P5NE SLI to an i3 2120, MSI mobo (recommended through Tom's Hardware budget build in December), and 8GB of RAM for $250 via newgg. Kept my case, HD, etc. It just depends on how much you want to spend but I don't think putting more money into an old mobo is going to buy you all that much more performance.

Have you tried overclocking it? I have a P8500, 3.16GHz overclocked to 3.8GHz, and it's very stable.

a new motherboard for 1155 socket, a cpu intel core I5 2500K and add some good quality memory, and off you go ;)
nothing good to upgrade to a quad even a Q9550.. it's already outdated...
