F1 challenge 99-02 - THE BEST F1 GAME TO TODAY'S TIME!

DriverN1

I started to play F1 challenge in 2003 and continue to play it now :) It's lovely F1 game which has perfect and tolerant and accurate AI system! I have ton of fan to play F1 challenge! :) of course F1 challenge is the best and greatest Formula One Game! Thank you ISI for this sim!!!

Glad to hear you enjoy some of the older titles. There's also some really good open-wheel racing going on in rFactor ;)

Besides, this game has excellent mods, still remains in my HD installed with the Prototype-C :D :D :D

So glad you started this post. Years ago I played F1C99-02. I loved everything about it except I could never get the steering to be precise and tight. The steering always felt mushy like an arcade game. I know this problem was me not finding the right settings combination. Since I could create precise steering with other sims, I uninstalled F1C 99-02.

Last week I installed it again after many years just for fun and to try it with my Logi Driving Force Pro Wheel.
Again the steering was 'mushy'. Like I said I loved this sim for many reasons (especially all the great mods) but precise steering is always the #1 most important thing in any sim for me.

Driver N1, can you possibly give me whatever in game wheel settings and also any other wheel/steering settings that would give me good precise steering?

Just the possibility that I might be able to still enjoy this sim after all these years is
great.

Thanks very much,
Velo

you are right. Of course, rfactor has great open-wheels mods, but rfactor is very good only for online-racing. But I like to play offline with AI, and it's unplayable and awful F1-mods racing against AI in rfactor. AI in rfactor is terrible, especially you can see this stupidity and blinding AI in high-speed modern formulas and cars :( it's really sad. I don't know and don't understand why you couldn't make rfactor's AI like f1challenge's AI, because f1challenge's AI is really very good! They are intelligent and not blind, so it's why I like to race f1challenge very much.
And I hope that you are going to do AI in rfactor2 as good as it's in f1challenge

I have my disc and this thread got me to install, but I have a couple questions:

1) Since EA doesn't host the site anymore, was there a patch for the game? Where can I download that patch if there is one? I can't find ANY information on this.
2) Is there a way to manually set/add more screen resolutions? I'd like to run 1920x1080, or even stretch it out for 5760x1080 to see if that works at all.

Thanks!

F1C is like RBR it is simple to stretch in widescreen but looks terrible compared to CRT. :p
F1-2001 was 2048 resolution and was awesome on 21"
Then F1-2002 dropped to 1600x1200 ( fail)

When I moved to widescreen I dropped all these titles for compability.

If you want a old title runs excellent in 1920 and W7 try Grand Prix Legends.

edit:
BTW F1 Challenge 99-02 has no patches.
There is a NOCD

Hmmm. I will get my disk out and install / drive it sometime today. I haven't done anything with it since installing rFactor shortly after its release.

DurgeDriven, Thanks for the added edit.

If you not too concerned how it looks stretched for sure give it a go.

For mine it looked best in a window I forget what I used on 1920 ...probably 1280x960
But it had low frame rate compared to XP and early video card
and some bugs then even with forced AA/AF it just did not look
as it used to.

I have F1 Challenge '99-'02 running 1920x1080 no probs. You have to search for a modified config file. It looks very good, no stretching etc. Running W7 64bit.

It is 1600x1200 Resolution
It be stretched by definition. lol
All you can do is make it like RBR and imho that looks "off" in WS too.

"Personally" I think it looks "off" on a widescreen having also run it on 14" to 21" CRT for years.
All I said.

If you like it don't let me stop you.

F1C was a darn good game. Shame the AI took a step backwards in rFactor though. That and the lack of an animated pit crew and rain makes F1C the better game for me. Not that I haven't had many hours of enjoyment out of RF.

I played it with a modded config file too, which gave me 1920x1200 with no stretching.

Anyone got the game running reliably in win 7? I've tried a while back with a few mods, but it CTD's on exiting tracks. I tried all the compatibility modes windows had to offer but had no luck. :(

It runs bad with late gen cards not just W7.

So if it is not stretched it must be cropped on way or the other.

AGAIN either way the PIXELS are BLOWN UP
That is all I said.

....and when the pixels are blown up it distorts the AA which makes it look crappy.

Get a DX9 card, XP and a 19" CRT and try it. :) Looks Magic

^This.

The best (released/complete) game untill now in terms of physics+contents (Live for Speed wins in physics, but loses in the other parts of the game).

I missed this for months, specially the rain. So much, that in fact, the Friday I bought rF2 just to drive Malaysia in the wet, like in the good old times hahaha
