Graphics Card Selection Help.

mjmueller

Hi Guys,

I need you help here. I just upgraded my computer and need to throw in a new graphics card due to one breaking down. I have 2 choices here and really am confused.

First is the EVGA GTX 560 2gb GDDR5

This card is not the (Ti), but has 2 gb video memory. Now, I do not know if cards really need the 2 gb's video memory, or if this is just gimmic.

Second is the Nvidia GTX 560 Ti 1 gb GDDR5

This car is the Ti & has more cores & faster clock speeds, & all SM's working. the thing is, is it doesn't have 2 gb video memory, but 1.

Everyone I talk to tells me the Nvidia GTX 560 Ti is the better card even with 1 gb mem.

What do you think.

I have the MSI GTX 560 Ti 1Gb and it runs at 40-50 FPS with everything at max, I believe you only need 2gb if you are using a resolution above 1920 x 1080

I just bought a gtx560ti 448 cores. It has 1280MB. It is a gtx570 with some cores disabled. Kind of a hybrid or crossover model. Some reviewers say it shouldn't have been called a 560. It is sold online for $269-289. Very over clockable. Only had it 2 days. Still experimenting but it is doing very well with my i5 system. Tell me some settings and I will tell you my FPS.

are those 40-50 FPS with AI cars or without? i'm planning to upgrade from my 260 to the 560 Ti...

They were Monaco without AI, since the update I get a steady 60FPS with video sync.
When i race with 15 AI, I get 35FPS at the start, then 50FPS during the race.
HDR and FXAA are on, all my settings are on max except circuit detail and opponent on high, AA level 4 and texture filter x4 anisotropic.

Hope this helps, although i agree we could do with a benchmark standard.

Not a good idea buying a new card just yet as the new Kepler cards are just around the corner.
The leaked results put the midrange 670ti which will be 300-400 pricerange performing better than gtx580.

We'll have to wait until release to see for sure but my advise is to hold off as the word on the grape vine is march release.

Nvidia's 600 Series is delayed ... release probably Q4 ... don't expect the 600 Series come anytime soon ... They are working feverly on beating the hell out of the new AMD's 7900 Series ... how knows we might not even see a 600 Series and they will release a 700 Series instead ... everything is possible ...

Don't know where you heard that??

The new cards are due out mid-end of march. The flagship cards will be out q3-q4 but the midrange and entry level ones are out in a few weeks. It's the midrange ones that are supposed to be faster than the gtx580.
