GTX 970 and 980

LesiU

So, Maxwell rev.2 is out already. Anyone getting one in the near time?
I am curious, what will be fps difference 970 vs 780 and 980 vs 780 Ti.

Thank you Cpt. Obvious but you won't find results for rFactor 2 in any of those reviews. Otherwise, I wouldn't ask :)

I'm planning to go with 970 SLI, it's already ordered, but it won't arrive till end of next week..

GTX 970 seems a really good choice IMO regarding Price/Quality. GTX 980 it's just crazy expensive for the small differences reviews found. Personnaly I don't want to deal with SLI setup, I prefer an unique card, SLI can be difficult to set as far as I read around...

Did some research and that 970 looks really good...price vs Performance.
I especially like the WindForce G1 gaming version.
I'm thinking about picking up one of those and finally replacing my 'trusty' GTX670.

got an MSI 970 GTX on order, will try one first and see how it copes, i can always order another if needed ;)
its going to replace my crossfire HD6950 system, so will see how if compares to that?

We can use this benchmark:
https://community.racesimcentral.ne...2-NEW-Benchmark-comparison-between-AMD-Nvidia

But with newest drivers and rF 2 Build 860.

And these were my results:

Written a (sort of) mini review of the MSI GTX 970 here: MSI GTX 970 mini review with rFactor 2 performance

As for this benchmark:

System Spec:
i5-2500k @ 4.3Ghz
8GB DDR3 1600Mhz

Palit GTX 770 Jetstream (factory o/c'd):

Core Boost: 1241Mhz
Mem: 7406Mhz

Avg: 57.860 - Min: 42 - Max: 84

MSI GTX 970 (manually overclocked):

Core Boost: 1501Mhz
Mem: 7388Mhz

Avg: 66.224 - Min: 47 - Max: 97

Something is not right with these results. According to reviews, i should be seeing around 30-40% increase in fps yet only see 14.5%.

Noob question...would it be worth to upgrade from AMD R9270X to GTX 970?

Use this to find out :)

https://community.racesimcentral.ne...ormance-Benchmarking-Comparison-for-rFactor-2

GTX 970 at stock clocks scores about 145fps average

Don't take it as the final marker of performance between the cards however, because they relative performances could change with different graphics settings used in the benchmark.

We're also realising some people are getting erroneous performance with their graphics card in rf2 whilst performing exactly as expected in other games and benchmarks. We're in the process of figuring out exactly what is causing the issue. But i think you can trust the 970 score of 145fps average i gave you because two 970 owners scored correctly to one another whilst it was my 970 that scored 13% worse to them both with the same clock speeds.

Thanks for the Information. In the meantime i updated my vbios, removed the fps lock (59FPS) from my player.json, OC`s my graka a little bit (1120 Mhz -> 1180 Mhz) and get now min 89 fps and max 111 fps (Build 798, URD-EGT MOD, Melbourne, 1 car). Micro stutter are gone...for the moment :)

With the fps lock my gpu% was allways between 60% and 95% and i got micro stutter. Without the fps lock i have very stable 99% gpu and no micro stutter.

Yes, it does ;)

After couple of years (if not decades) being an ATI/AMD Fanboy, at least R9270X, i did the move to Nvidia now and i have no regrets about this.

I did a test on ISI Spa Classics, 29 AI, everything max outed, ISI GTR Camaro. The min. FPS was ~ 130 in the pitlane, between 160 and 170 on the track, max. was 182 FPS.

Afterwards a quick race on the NOS with EGT-URD, everything max. outed, 29 AI, Pitlane 85 FPS, Start 80 FPS, during Race 100 - 120 FPS, max. was 135 FPS.

No stutter at all.

OS: Windows 8 64bit, MB: Asus RAMPAGE V EXTREME X99 RG SA, CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K @ 3.3 GHz, RAM: 16GB 2133-13 XPG Z1 K2 ADA, GPU: EVGA GTX980 SC, HDD: 2 x SSD Samsung 850 PRO, Single Screen (1920x1080)

I seriously don't understand why AMD can't get that min to max fps issue sorted out. It's been years.
It has to be a driver issue. You'd think after all this time, they'd have a dedicated driver team who only handled integration with Windows OS.
I loved the Radeon Pro series. It was the cat's meow during it's day.
While they were in transition, I went to the HD4870. It had massive frame rates but stuttered like crazy
I then went to the GTX equivalent and though lower in fps...it was glass smooth.
Figuring it was an isolated incident, I then went to a 4850x2 and had to return it because it wasn't officially supported driver-wise.
I haven't had the will to look at AMD since.
It's unfortunate, because they make really well built hardware.

Doesn't it come back to what titles you played at the time, resolution, preferred candy, etc.

I remember 4850/4890 and 9800GTX+ /GTX260 swapping top places in all the stuff I ran back then.

Espically individual titles AA/AF and impact, etc

Titles included RBR, GTR2, Race07. All were run at the exact same levels.
In all cases it was just remove drivers for one card, run Driver Cleaner Pro (which was the 'rage' back then)...install new card with the appropriate drivers.
AMD would be great in First-Person shooters (which I'm not really big into). Their fps were in most cases, unmatched.
Most of the sim I ran at the time would look great...with both cards (from the cockpit view).
Where AMD fell down was in almost all of the exterior views. The cards would stutter really badly during playback.
It was really annoying since the cards were a 'work of art' and I think... better in terms of build quality.
I find it hard to believe all these years later, they still can't get their s**t together where most racing sims are concerned.
