Question about Negative Drag

TChapman500

I'm wanting to reduce the minimum spoiler setting of a particular vehicle. The problem is that the spoiler's base drag is set to 0. If I change the range to allow for a lower spoiler angle, the base drag will have to be a negative value. I'm concerned that this will cause the vehicle to over-accelerate when it reaches higher speeds.

EG: I'm afraid that instead of getting a slight boost in acceleration and maximum speed due to the reduced drag, I'll get a significant boost in acceleration and maximum speed.

Should I be concerned about this or would this be like lowering the base drag of the vehicle by said amount of negative spoiler drag?

You can use negative drag and the car will only accelerate if the total negative drag is greater than the other regular positive drags. So if body drag is 0.5 and rear wing drag is -0.1, you still have 0.4 drag. It would make more sense to reduce bodydrag by 0.1 and start rearwing drag at 0, but the effect in total drag is the same.

Okay, thanks.

PS: I want to set the spoiler to negative drag so that the overall drag curve of the vehicle is not effected.
