Question about Shocks

TChapman500

Where do I find the base values for the shocks? And are they per setting or per force unit (eg: Newtons)?

As shown in the HDV, damping is measured as N/m/s (Newtons per meter per second).

So will changing the range automatically change how the car handles?

It depends.

Given the example data from the ZR.HDV:

SlowBumpRange=(4500.0, 250.0, 1)
SlowBumpSetting=0
FastBumpRange=(3000.0, 250.0, 1)
FastBumpSetting=0
SlowReboundRange=(8000.0, 500.0, 1)
SlowReboundSetting=0
FastReboundRange=(6000.0, 500.0, 1)
FastReboundSetting=0

Because there is 1 available choice for each damping rate (Index position 0), changing the stepping value will NOT matter. Obviously changing the starting value is going to alter the damping rates which in turn can change the way the handles.

If you add more available choices to pick in the garage, as the ZR Type Z does, yes, handling can be affected.

Typically the dampers only control how quickly the spring reacts. If your springs are out of whack, altering your damper settings is not going to fix the problem. They can mask it, but the root of the problem may be elsewhere.
