rf2 & Thrustmaster TH8 RS Shifter... Cant get it to work.

fred.e

My first post and a little nervous i don't get my head ripped off..

Very new to PC racing (previously only PS3). Got my T500 and got it working fine with the current build of RF2.
I connected my TH8-RS shifter today and PC / drivers loaded properly and both are visible in the properties in Win7 - but it wont recognise the devices in the Settings section of the game.

When both are connected to the PC (wheel and shifter) the wheel isnt even recognised in game.

I've looked around the forum and googled and worried I missed something. Any assistance would be really appreciated.

Thanks..!

I have both the T500 RS and the TH8RS and both are useable just fine in rF2.

You say drivers loaded properly.... you do mean the ones from the thrustmaster site don't you, not the generic windows 7 ones and I also take it you have updated your T500 RS firmware to v38?

Forgive me if you have done this already, but the way I use them is as follows:

Plug both in to USB ports from the PC motherboard (not through any USB Hubs), always wheel first then shifter, not sure if this matters in this day and age on rF2, but it's an old habit as it does matter on some other older titles as the controller IDs can get a little mixed up.

Go in to game (singleplayer for the first time).

Click on Settings at the bottom then on Controls at the top

Click on Detect at the bottom right.

You should get a message stating 'Controller found and loaded' with some subtext stating Thrustmaster T500 RS Racing Wheel.

The words 'Thrustmaster T500 RS Racing Wheel' should now be under the controls section bottom right above the Detect button.

On the 'driving' tab top right, scroll down the window to the gears section, click on the 'reverse gear' and then put the Stick in the reverse position. Repeat this step for gears 1 through 7.

As you are no longer using the default control setup for the 'Thrustmaster T500 RS Racing Wheel' the text '- modified' is appended to the controller title bottom right. It automatically saves any changes you make and so you should be good to go :) and you will not need to do this again.

If you get stuck at any stage, try to be a descriptive as possible so we can help you sort out your problem.

I have the TH8RS working sequencial with a Fanatec. I can`t get the reverse gear like in the other sims. Why?

Mr Pix thanks for the response.

I have the F1 Add On, should've mentioned that before. On it's own I click detect and it picks it up, so no problem.
When I have the TH8-RS plugged in on that same screen I click Detect and it comes up with something like "Can not load or map drivers". On that screen if I move the wheel left and right the bars to do move (min-max settings) but as soon as I unplug the shifter everything is back to normal.

So basically it wont Detect the shifter when I click Detect. Everything is plugged directly into PC and drivers on the computer loaded correctly.

OK... I just tested with the F1 Addon Rim too.

In normal mode it detects it as 'Thrustmaster T500 RS Racing Wheel' so the same things apply to what I said before and it works normally and as expected (although why you would want a H-Shifter with an F1 Rim I'm not going to question ;))

In advance mode, it indeed can not detect the wheel and say there is no profile found for it, which I would expect.

Soo.. I can only assume you are using in advance mode.... and this is NOT a problem you will be pleased to know.

All you need to do is assign each of the buttons and axis manually.

This is done as I described for the gear shifter in my earlier post... for example.. for the steer left... click on it and then just turn the wheel left.... etc etc for every button / axis.

It works OK here... if you need further assistance I do have skype and can talk you through it.... let me know a GMT time when you are about and I'll turn skype on.... and pm me for my skype handle, not going to post it here..... we WILL get you sorted...

Thank you so much, really appreciate your help..! Will give it a shot now and let you know.

Update: Just changed the F1 to Standard (form advanced) and detected everything correctly. All good..!
