rFactor.exe closes while loading track

haha1

can someone please help me, i had to reinstall rFactor last week and now when i load a track, rFactor.exe immediately closes with no error messages or fair warning :(

If you are using Windows 7, make sure you are right-clicking on the rfactor.exe and selecting "Run As Administrator..." as this has been known to resolve the symptoms you describe.

Failing that, make sure you've done a complete uninstall of rfactor prior to reinstalling, and don't install any mods/addons/plugins until you are sure rfactor is working correctly.

To make a clean install of rfactor:

1. Uninstall rfactor either from your Add & Remove programs option in your Control Panel or using the game’s uninstall feature.
2. DELETE THE ENTIRE RFACTOR FOLDER along with all its contents and any rFactor folder located in your Documents folder (Vista and Windows 7 users)
3. If you do NOT have the SafeDisc DVD version which requires the DVD to be inserted to play, then download the 1255 full installer from the download’s page of rfactor.net
4. Install rfactor (with adminstrator rights)
5. When prompted to update Directx, select YES (even if you have the latest Directx, Vista or 7)
6. Launch rfactor. If prompted to activate rfactor, use your 32 digit activation code received from Trymedia and follow the instructions in item #2 at the trymedia customer support center.

I can load most tracks without a problem, but some cause rFactor to stop responding according to my Windows Task Manager program (control-alt-delete).

For example Toban and Mid-Ohio, two tracks I really want to have....., cause rFactor to freeze up when I try to load them.

Perhaps the .mas file is corrupted? Please assist if you can.

I am using the automatic install feature on the rFactor Central web site to install the tracks...and I have done it manually too, by putting the track folder in the locations folder...

Mike

When you have mods installed, corruption is always a possibility. You can test this by installing rfactor into a new clean folder (e.g. "rfactor clean") and running it from there, then test the Toban track. Don't install any mods/addons/plugins to this install. This should tell you if the default content is working in a clean environment. However, if you have UAC enabled, I'm not sure if it uses your existing player file (and perhaps other files you've installed). I've never enabled it to try it. If it does, you'd probably have to temporarily rename any rfactor related folder in your Documents folder so that the new installation of rfactor will create a new clean user folder there. After testing, you could just delete the new one and rename the old one back.

Well, I created a fresh install, and now Mid Ohio and Toban work just fine. Thanks for the suggestion, it worked. And I did not need an activation code either... Thanks.... Mike
