RFactor special edition 2008: lite install?

Hi there,
I used the search option but i wasn't able to find anything (my fault for sure).
I will receive an unopened copy of RF Special Edition 2008 (DVD i suppose, no activation required), can I do a lite install?
I want to load only BMW Sauber 2007, BMW Sauber 2008 and tracks.
If I want to install later multiple mods what should I do?
I am under Win 8.1 x64.

There is nothing like a "lite install" for rF1.
It comes with all ISI content. (what is not much but fun anyways!)

For mods, download mod (most likely a WinRAR-archive) and unpack to rFactor folder.
 
What about this?

I don't know exactly what you mean.

You want to have only these 2 cars selectable in the Menu?

Or do you want to have a small rFactor folder where only these both cars and the tracks are included?

After this I am looking for a way to install mods one by one...a clean install of rfactor for each mod...

If you have no or just a few experience with rFactor folder/file structure it will be no good idea to try to delete content that you don't want to have by hand. Or Copy it from one Installation-folder to another.

Especially because vehicles don't only have folders/files in the Vehicles Directory.
They have Sounds, own UIs, rfm-files, own Shaders, Talents...

I would say for you it will be the easiest way, when you install the light version.

And I could offer to package the both BMW F1, that you can extract them into it, if they aren't included already.
 
I have just done this very thing,almost.

I remembered there was a BMW Sauber back in the day,2006 version,that was part of rFactor install.
2007 version came as an ISI add on.
So googled around to find both 2006 & 2007 versions.

It is just a case of having the vehicle folder,nothing else needed as they use default rFactor files.

More trouble than it's worth deleting vehicles and tracks.
Just install both BMW's and find them in OW Championship.
Try them at Lienz GP Short ;)
 
Tanks guys, to be honest I found only the install for sauber 2007, but if yoi can help me with 2006 and 2008 model would be great. I want to remove default cars because I find those models ugly, I hate fictional series :)
 
The 2008 should be included in the 2008 Special Edition that you have (or will get like you've said).

And the 2006... i don't have it on my actual machine(s) and the Downloadsite from ISI, where you could get older Versions of rFactor, is down unfortunately.
But MystaMagoo has posted that he found it by google-search, try that too or maybe he can post the link. ;)

If you can't get it, post again and i will go into the darkest corner of my home, get my oldest machine, try to get it running and maybe find an installation that has it included.
 
2006 version is found in the 1150 build.
Need to install it though to get it out.

Thanks would be great, can I install it on win8.1?Or would be better install it, take the car and then install the last rfactor release?

It's just the vehicle folder and can be dropped into any rFactor install.
I'll zip it and upload then I'll send you the link with instructions.
 
Ok...I have a problem here...I installed rFactor 1255g, then patched it with 1255f update to make it compatible with dvd and games starts...but my g 27 goes crazy and driver looks blocky with crazy textures...what should i do?

If you have installed 1255g from the download section, you have the latest version (g comes after f ;)).

If you have a DVD version installed, you can update it with the 1255f patch (exe).

Don't mix it.

And if it isn't gone after correcting that, texture mess-ups e.g. can be solved by changing the Shader Level setting in rfconfig to Dx9 and/or setting the texture quality in game to higher levels.
And what does "my G27 goes crazy" mean?
 
So If I want the latest version I can't...if I install the g version I can set shader level in rfconfig up to 8, with dvd version I can set it at 5 max, even the space required is different, the g version is bigger than dvd one installed. This is a mess, they should give me the option to install the latest version too.
Wheel in game is preloaded with g but no with dvd. Even if recognized the wheel is hard to steer, starts clipping (the well know g27 clunky noise) and steers by itself during driving.

Latest version is 'g' (not sure if it's just the swap from trymedia to their own activation or not?)
If it works online etc with g then stick with that.

As to your G27 sounds like you have the FFB reversed,in controls set FFB to +100 or -100 (the opposite of what you have already)
 
I'm not familiar with the DVD version as far as content or licensing, but it sounds like you should install it somewhere, take out the content that comes with it, then start again with 1255g which is the most up to date version, and put your 'special' content into it as required. You'll probably have to pare down to a lite version from the base install yourself, but at least you'll only need to do it once.
 
But the G version is the digital edition of the game, I have DVD. I don't want to use "special way" to activate the game...I hope I haven't to buy the game for the 3rd time...
 
You already have G don't you? So a current ISI license. The DVD version will install standalone, and unless it's blocked I'm assuming the DVD content can be copied across to a G install.

Or do you want to stay with the DVD F version for some other reason?

Nope, sorry mu fault, I should be more clear. I bought a dvd version years ago, but was lost so I bought another one. Now I have only rfactor 08 special edition wich need the dvd to start and play. Now, with windows 8.1 I have the problems I described. So the only way to make it work is installing the G version but I can run it only as demo because i haven't a license key. BTW maybe I should just stop try to made it working, I was trying to install it to learn to drive but I think I will return to other games.

Ah, I see.

Assuming you can't somehow update to G (or don't want to, which seems likely as you bought another DVD!), you should be fine with F anyway. I'm still on the Trymedia F version myself (still works, so haven't converted to G).

Your wheel will work fine, just not automatically.
 
I bought another dvd because I am totally new to rfactor (the first time I bought it I only used it for 3-4 times with gamepad!!) and didn't know about a-e-i-o-u-y versions of the game :)
 
Ok. I know some people are really against any sort of digital licensing and prefer the DVD, figured you might be one of those :)

So yeah, don't worry too much about it at this stage, the F and G versions are nearly identical anyway. The G27 detection support is obviously better in G, but you can set it up yourself fully in F.
 
You'll be fine with the DVD version,I can upload the G27 file which I think should be ok to just drop in there.
It is after all just a controller file.
Previous DVD's are also fine,there was no need to buy another :(

When i read this, it's the main problem that you neither have the DVD Key, nor an online Key for the Downloadversion and the 2008 Special Edition is no "Standalone", right?
In this case, as the legal way, i would suggest to buy a key again. It's not so expensive anymore and worth it. ;)

Ok guys, I done some tests. Dvd works but I have artifacts, no g27 (works only if I use file provided me by MystaMagoo but still having problems) and is only 1,7gb installed. rFactor g, played as demo, great graphic (shader level from max 6 can be set to 8), g27 works out of the box (still need to be configured), 3,7gb installed. The game is not the same between dvd and g, I wrote to support waiting for answer.

Is that different in Windows 8 or with the rFactor Special Edition 2008?
I only know 7,8 and 9 as available options for the Shader Level in rF config.
Don't you have 9 available?
And where is 6 coming from?
 
Sorry, I mean anti-aliasing :) not shader level.
I got mail, they can't upgrade my version of the game because the special edition wasn t meant to be sold was a promotional gift, so I have to buy another copy in order to have the game working properly :-\ I will wait steam version...

is v2008 limited in some way?
 
ok guys, returning to thread, I have installed it (2008 edition waiting for a new key) now i want to install some mods, like Enduracers, Historic...etc etc...how should i do?Searching for a guide :)
 
Mods are packaged differently. Some you can extract to the main folder installation and are all set, some not so much. I'd suggest every mod you download, that you decompress or install to a separate folder and analyze the folder structure.

They will go into the rFactor/GameData folder, under GameData/Vehicles GameData/Sounds and GameData/Locations, for example. Have a look around, you'll understand very quickly how it is meant to work!
 
Normally you can follow a simple Basic Rule: When you open the zipped file and see a "GameData" folder, you can directly extract it into your rFactor installation folder. When asked if you allow overwriting, answer with yes.

If you don't see a GameData folder when opening the zipped file, do what Guimengo told you.
