I recently purchased a new computer and have got rFactor2 up and running fine via Steam. Now I would like to get my previously purchased rFactor (original) on to my new machine but can't find out how to do it. Where do I go from here, please?

I assume you mean for steam, the rfactor.net FAQ points to this link for obtaining a steam key:
