sfx file - samples for bottoming out changable?

LesiU

When a car bottoms out, there is a "tiny" sample beeing played by rF, but I couldn't find any reference to it in sfx file. Has anybody ever got that working with a different sound?

I've just tried substituting several files and it seems to use the 'scraping' noise - VS_INSIDE_SCRAPING and (presumably) VS_OUTSIDE_SCRAPING. Of course these are wall scraping sounds, but it only plays a small section of it, I'd guess somewhere around the middle of the sample.

I suspect it also doesn't play the original sound, but modifies it in some way. I'll play around with some different frequencies and see what happens.

Oops, confused myself with my own sample before... the start of the sound is played, though only a very short length (gets longer with worse bottoming out, but still only a few tenths of a second).

VS_OUTSIDE_SCRAPING is definitely used for external views, and it sounds like the sample is put through a filter of some sort - low-pass, or simply reduced frequency, or something else. (it gets broken up a bit anyway due to the short sample length, so plenty of clicking as it loops)

Thanks for quick reply!
Damn, wouldn't it be easier to just implement that as separate sample :D

Would be cool if you could find a reasonable way to manage that thing... but it looks like there's not much we can do :(

It certainly seems a clumsy way to do things, though I wonder how many people have thought about modding that particular sound in the past :p

Well, if the standard scraping sound (when a car bottoms out) would sound like should, then probably even I wouldn't bother... but it's not - and that's already a good reason to make modifications :)
