Urban Driving Simulation

Hey Everyone,

I am working on a neuroscience research project to see how people behave in stressful driving environments. Has anyone done anything in rFactor where you can control how the other AI cars behave? Specifically, I would like to have the user interact with rFactor just like a regular gamer, but have the other cars behave like cars in traffic rather than on a race track (i.e. some drive in same direction and some in opposite direction). I have begun to use Bob's Track Builder to build my urban environment but I am not sure where to even start to modifying the behavior of other cars or objects (i.e. pedestrian, traffic light, etc).

Pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Although I've never seen anything like this done before, the right direction is the AIW file.

You could create a track that had loops at each end for the cars to turn around and then you'd have two-way traffic. Then the track could even be folded so you have a figure-8 track with multiple intersections. The AI, however, won't stop for traffic lights or check for cross traffic, so there'd be lots of collisions... and no speed limit unless you managed to create a track with no Pit Out, so the AI cars would always be on their speed limiter if they have one.

Two way tracks have been done-check out Timmelsgoch at NoGrip, and Ridgerunner's Hill at RFC.
