Using Car Series mods with the disk version - Help!

Ok, here's my issue:

I have the disk version of RFactor. When I download a stand alone mod such as Stockcar Sim Series, instead of using my installed version I get a "trial version of RFactor with the mod. How do I get the mods to work with the disk version?

I think you are running the game in demo mode, you need to purchase it first.

Actually I purchased the disk a few years back. I came up with a work around for the problem though. Turns out I renamed the rfactor.exe in the mod to rfactor.bak & copied the exe from the disk. It worked..
