Analog steering rate for gamepads

relentless

Hi

I'm referring to an archived topic here
https://community.racesimcentral.net/showthread.php/1968-Xbox-360-Controller-Steering-Rate

At the time it was indicated that it would be an option for people using analog sticks on gamepads to lower the steering rate and achieve a steering rate similar to what you see on console games.

I know in rfactor 2 they seem to have made the analog and digital steering rates one and the same and I was wondering if it's possible with rfactor 1..

I had a G25 for a few years and after a wrist injury wasn't able to use it again so I've pretty much not been able to play rfactor again because of how difficult it is with a gamepad. But after buying rfactor 2(supporting the cause and all that) it looks like it may be possible.

Can any one shed light on the above topic and if its possible to get the same results in rfactor 1 with an analog stick on a xbox 360 controller?

Ah, ok I think I know what you're saying now. I don't currently have a fix for you....BUT

In the NEXT UPDATE we'll add the parameter "Use Digital Rates For Analog" in the controller.ini file. Setting that to "1" will apply the "Steering Rate" delayed momentum like we have with keyboard driving to your analog controller. (might even make it into the UI...no promises for next update though.)
......

Do you have this parameter line in your Controller.ini?
If not, try out if it changes anything when you add it.

Forgot to ask...do you use the latest Version?
Look HERE for Download.

It wasn't present in the controller file and I have tried adding the parameter on the off chance but it didn't have any impact. I'll double check my version but I'm pretty sure I upgraded to the latest.

And to play around with the ingame settings of "Speed Sensitivity" under the Rates-tab and "Sensitivity" under the Controler1-tab doesn't change anything?

And when you load the included Preset of the Keyboard and then set your buttons.... don't helps too?

Double checked my version and its good, my speed sensitivity is very low.

Just to confirm, the digital steering rate is working fine (i.e if I was to use the keyboard the turning rate of the steering wheel would be low like you'd expect) but it has no impact on the analog steering rate that the controller is sending. This is why I was hoping the setting that one of the isi team talked about was actually real.

Did you try to set the value of speed sensitivity higher?

(Always take "Keyboard" as preselection.)

With a wheel you get a better reaction when the value is 0, so with an analog button, the value should be higher right?

And in the controller tab, did you try to set the sensitivity of the wheel -axis to 0 or another, low value?

I don't have an analog controller here, so i can't test which changes will have which result, by myself.

Tried speed sensitivity higher, no difference and also tried the Z axis sensitivity which is my steering to no avail. I really believe this is simply that the analog steering rate is not configurable, which would make sense on a wheel since you'd want it direct. I think they just didn't take analog sticks into account originally with rfactor, but they obviously did with rfactor 2, I guess its just a matter of hoping our favourite mods will be migrated across to the new engine.

But there must be a possibility because i have seen so many drivers using gamepads and they have not been the slowest ones.
Maybe it's a question which pad you use?
I remember 1 of these drivers said, that he uses a PlayStation 2 Pad, whatever that means, i have absolutely no experience with gamepads :).

Im currently using an Playstation 2 controller which works great!, im have set the following in my settings.ini for being able to control the cars probaly :)

Analog Control Filter="8"
Use Keyboard Rates For Analog="1"

Try play around with "Analog Control Filter="xxx"
until you get it right :)

When you say settings.ini do you mean controller.ini?
I've tried added 'Use Keyboard Rates For Analog=' but the line gets deleted on startup.

I'm using a standard xbox 360 controller with USB attachment.

Maybe the problem is here:
You have 2 "Controller.ini".
One is directly in the folder with the [Your Nickname].PLR and other files.
The other one is in the folder "Controller" and has names like "AZ Keyboard.ini" or "LogitechG25.ini", that come with the game.

Try this:
go ingame, change your settings and then save them in the MAPPINGS tab and give them a name (e.g. "relentless").
Now you have a file called "relentless.ini" in the Controller-folder.

And in this file you can add the line Use Keyboard Rates For Analog="1"
Put it directly under the line "[ General Controls ]"

The game always has to be shut down when you edit any files!

Be sure that the profile is loaded when you join the game.
If it's not loaded every time you join the game, rename it to "1relentless"

I'll try this when I finish work today thanks.

Gave it a try, alas no go. It doesn't delete it from the ini in the controllers folder but it doesn't have any impact in game (and I made sure to load the profile when I started the game).

I can only imagine the setting just isn't supported in rfactor 1, as I looked and found the option in the controller.ini in rfactor2.

Maybe you expect too much. I think you can not compare rF1 and rF2 under the aspect of possibilities in settings.

BUT... as said before, there are many people using gamepads in rF1 and they win races, so there must be a possibility to set up another controller as a wheel in an acceptable way.

Wouldn't you agree to that?

Maybe you just have to buy another controller, or do more play around with the ingame-settings of your current one, i don't know where your special problem is but i whish you good luck, that you can solve it. :)

Well I imagine enough practise could make it possible, I didn't play rfactor at all after I sold the steering wheel and it was only after playing forza 5 on xbox that I was noticed how possible it was to play with a controller so i thought I'd give it a go. rfactor 2 is great with a controller with low tcs and abs enabled but I miss the great japanese street car mods you could get for rfactor being that I live in new zealand and none of the cars we drive are really represented except for extreme race versions.
