Modding T500 rim

wgeuze

I'm really struggling getting getting my modded T500 rim to work (soldering cables), despite help and advice from some people (you know who you are ;) )

If there is any simracer based near Amsterdam, the Netherlands, who is willing to help getting this thing in working order I'll be very happy! It's already
up for sale as well but nobody is interested in buying it as it doesn't work...

Reward, a crate of beer maybe? ;)

Thanks!

not near you but do you have any pics of how it is now ? and what you need to do ?

Simply soldering a usb cable to the display seems too much trouble for my soldering skills... the device (simr-f1) isn't recognized when I plug it in. As far
as I know all the 4 wires are connected as they should but somehow it is not working. The device does work with the regular usb mini connection, but I'd
rather not use that because it is not as sturdy as the other one which I was advised to use.

you do need to have 5 wires connected as far as I am aware as one wire is a earth for the shield on the plug that goes into the PC usb socket ?
I use a leo bodnar F1 style display that I have connected with the mini B usb socket and a small right angle connector that goes to a coiled cable and it seems to work fine maybe try that, the only thing I can think of is you have 1 of the wires soldered on incorrectly so that the data is not connecting properly otherwise it should be very simple.

Hmm according to the SIMR-F1 display manual I only need 4 wires, there's also only 4 on the external usb connector.
I've resoldered the thing already and I don't know what is going wrong, it just might be my soldering skills, or lack thereof though :(

Many thanks to navigator, it's working, I just can't solder if my life depended on it apparently :)

Well, I've seen the wheel now and I have to say; it's a nice piece of art!!
Wgeuze knows what he's doing (as long as he doesn't solder ;) ) Sorry, couldn't help myself there :)

Give me pixels and I'll make it, hardware and wires on the other hand :p

@Eddy
Thanks for the tip in the first place. By the way, we knew each other, I bought Navigator's G27 last year!

Turned that one down; I don't drink beer.
I gave him the choice out of some favorite brands: Apple, Mercedes, Rolex, West.........

you don't need much skill to solder, (the gas soldering irons are fab)

just solder on all the wires leaving extra length on the wires before you even put the buttons / knobs etc in place
this saves a lot of time

you can do it on a tray whilst the tv is on, it really is simple

Anybody using the T500RS with movable shift paddles?
Who builds a good kit?
