NVidia, GTX5xx or GTX6xx ?

As the title says.

Also, I'm looking for a card which at least has 128-bit path and 2GB video RAM.

Any ideas?

All I can say is I am very happy with my GTX 670 2Gb, runs triples and so far has coped with everything I have thrown at it.
 
I've landed on GTX680 series. Now, one of the card has 4GB, 256-bit and the other 2GB, 384-bit.

I'm always thinking that having wider bus/data path is much better than having more VRAM but with narrower data path.

Am I correct here? These cards are affordable but, well, expensive. I need to judge them more carefully or the wife will have a go at me ;D
 
I did an upgrade from GTX570 (OC, 1GB) to a GTX670 (OC, 2GB). The high FPS raised about factor 2, but the low FPS almost was the same, because of my CPU (AMD Phenom X4 965 @ 3.4GHz). And it looks like rf2 is only using 2 CPU cores.

Looking at your specs (AMD Athlon II X4 635 @ 3.3 GHz) your CPU is probably the limiting factor too if you go for a GTX570 or GTX670.

Hopefully ISI will use all four cores sometime, or i have to switch to INTEL (which i dont like cause intel robbed me in the 1990th, when there was no AMD Athlon). Same applies to your config.

(For correctness i have to add that i am using stereoscopic 3D, but that should not make too much difference cause CPU and GPU usage should be x2 for both)
 
Do you have a triple screen setup? Why do you need so much GPU power (GTX680) compared to your CPU? Personally i think the added (low) performance a GTX680 offers compared to GTX670 doesnt justify the price.
 
TBH, I missed the GTX670! I'll check it out first. The reason why I need, no, want, a powerful GPU is related to stuff that the latest graphic engines can provide (just check the tech demo of CryEngine3, Unreal Engine 4, on YouTube) by exploiting the GPU power, even though the CPU is less powerful. Also it seems that in this field, nVidia has better start than ATI/AMD, so I want to switch back to nVidia. :)

I'm using HWcompare.com to help me see and understand the difference between nVidia GTX family, such as this http://www.hwcompare.com/12518/geforce-gtx-590-vs-geforce-gtx-670/

The result of that comparison is GTX590 is still superior than GTX670, even though GTX590 was released over a year ago (March 2011). Maybe it's due to its dual GPU core architecture. But GTX590 also drawn 300+ watt of power!

Meanwhile, changing from HD5770 to GTX660 already show an impressive figures: http://www.hwcompare.com/13376/geforce-gtx-660-vs-radeon-hd-5770/

The difference between GTX660 and GTX660 Ti is also not much. GTX660 in fact draws less power (max TDP 140W) than 660 Ti version (max TDP 150W).

So I opted for GTX660. It's not as costly as GTX670 as well, it's a relief actually. :)

I haven't buy the card yet, maybe after Christmas I'll buy it, usually we'll have a big discount on that date :)

I lost contact with almost all CSGT member, except Bristow, but he also doesn't seem interested in modding at the moment.

Personally, I'm waiting for AC to complete and rF2 to going gold. :D

After some more researches about GTX660 and 670, I chose to buy a GTX670 instead. It does cost me more, but the ~20% improvements over GTX660 is well worth the money (and ~270% improvement over my HD5770).

The main reason (for me) is GTX670 has wider data path (256-bit) than GTX660 (192-bit). IMO, a wide data path is important in rFactor (1 and 2), and it's already proven by the much faster rF2 loading time (than my old HD5770) in my first impression test.

Too bad the GTX680 is still way beyond my budget.

Games tests here confirm at the very worst the GTX670 4GB O/C is no slower then a vanilla GTX680.

Actually if you look at all tests in most instances it is a frame or 2 faster, not too mention the fact you have that extra 2GB of ram available if ever needed.

Cheapest stock GTX680 at my shop is $549 so for me it is a no brainer. :)
 
I own the 670gtx and got OC it pretty much and haven't experiened any problems. I would suggest to get rit of the standard Phenom cooler and place a not to expensive offmarket one. Then push your x4 to 4ghz. Running this way for months now. No heat problems. 38c idle and 55c on full load. OCing your phenom will get u alot of performance gain.
