sudden DNF on first race lap (online session)

Sebastian Röhn

Hello rFactor community,

we having since a couple races an issue with sudden DNF in online race sessions. We do a reconlap into the starting grid. Server is set to laps as race length and the first lap is our formationlap for a rolling start. But when the polesetter passes the 1st sector time, sudden DNF in the rest of the field of a few drivers (2-4) happen at the exact same moment. Last race we switched back to warmup after agaon 4 DNF, but again...1st sector timing and the same drivers got DNF. We checked also the starting position of the DNF drivers. But there are only 2 matches in 11 cases...so this seems to be random.

We use as track base the great Vitual_LM LeMans 1991-96 version already in a 24h event last year. We hadn't this bug in 2013. Caused by using the rejoin plugin, we modified the start/finish line to another position further afar from the pit exit. As we than realised our DNF issue, we switched back to the old timing line position. The next race on 2 different servers were without the DNF's. But now it came on the last two races back. The AIW file is still the same like our last years version, except a change on one special pitgroup for TV cars.

The only difference in settings is the use of race laps instead of race time. We had last year an issue, that drivers got the checkered flag 1 lap too soon. I asked about this bug here in the forum and the answer was...switch to race laps. Which we have done now. But we have at the moment not really an idea what is causing the sudden DNF.

Has maybe someone exeperience this bug or can give us a hint where to look at it?

Thanks for your help! Best regards,

Sebastian

We had something similar (not equal) in 2 ocasions.
One cause there was a mistype in .PLR on "MULTI Grid Walkthrough="0". It was on "1" and that f%#& up online races.
Second one was on gp79 tracks (Dijon and Zandvoort) which were caused by the place where first garages are, too close to timing line (i suppose its from that). I think theres also some problem on the latest norisring (2011?!?) with some garage spots.
In both cases the DNF´s appear when switching from warmup to race.

Why dont you try removing the reckon lap? Just formation+rolling. Or even remove formation just to test how it goes.

Because it happens in the first race lap ;) We had never a NOT reasonable DNF at the reconlap. But still thanks Valter...I will check the plr entry.

About your point with the first garage...against this theory is speaking that the new position of the timing line, which were further afar form the pit exit doesn't help and we also got the DNF issue with that timing line position.
