Dear Michael, my great friend, you helped me so much in my career and I pray for you every day. I took part in my karting race with your name on my helmet visor and now I want to see you stronger than ever, just as always. I give you a big hug! Luca Baldisserri – Michael I’ll never forget when, back in 2000 you came and said some encouraging things to me after the problems with the car at Spa. Your message was clear – never give up. Now, I’m the one telling you the same thing. We want to see the old Michael again.

Felipe Massa

Michael I will never forget the lap when you gave me a lift on the sidepod of your Ferrari, when I stopped out on track with a problem at Hockenheim! I’m waiting to enjoy a nice game of football with you. Forza Michael!

Giancarlo Fisichella

Ciao Michael, what has remained with me is a memory from when you made your debut as my team-mate in the Jordan F1 car. My electronics engineer came up to me and asked why I wasn’t going flat through ‘Eau Rouge,’ one of the most difficult corners on the calendar. I asked why he wanted to know that after just one free practice session, as I wanted to get more confidence in the car at this fearsome corner and the answer was, “Michael’s taking it flat!” That was your Formula 1 debut. Now you have to tackle an equally difficult flat out challenge, but knowing your determination and your inner strength, I know you can do it. All the best Michael, hang in there.

Andrea De Cesaris

Dear Michael, not a day goes by at home without me and my son Giuliano talking about you, about your recovery in which we believe and the times we spent go-karting together. Now, we are waiting for you and we want to see you as soon as possible back on the same karting track so we can all race together again!

Jean Alesi

I have many good memories with Michael. I remember the first time I met him, at the Fuji Circuit for an F3 race. One year later he joined a Japanese F3000 race. We had qualifying tires that were new for him. He came to me and asked questions for two hours. He was already extremely professional, just like when we worked together in F1. On the track we were team mates, outside we were soul mates. We shared a great passion for sushi. Once I took him into a famous sushi restaurant. He exclaimed like a kid: “I have never had such a wonderful sushi before”. He’s a great man, I pray he will show his smile to all of us again.

Hirohide Hamashima

Dear Michael, there are so many moments we have spent side by side. On the start grid for your debut in 1991 at Spa-Francorchamps. In 1992, when I was a Ferrari driver and you took your first win there in Belgium. In the years when I was a TV commentator and spoke about all your wins in a Ferrari. I lived and felt close to you, just like the thousands of fans to whom you gave great pleasure. For all these reasons and aware of just what you had achieved I asked you if I could have the honour of having one of your helmets, when we were at a charity football match for the Nazionale Piloti. Once again you amazed me because your answer was the umpteenth lesson of intelligence and respect. “Ivano (that’s what you always called me) I will give you one of my helmets, but you must give me one of yours.” Michael I ask you for one more present. Surprise me once again.”

Ivan Capelli

My experience of Michael has been mostly as an adversary, but what an adversary! It is every sport’s person’s ambition to find out how they compare to the very best. Michael has won more races and Championships in Formula One than anyone else, so to have been in a World Championship showdown event against Michael is to find out once and for all how you rate as a driver. I am grateful to have had the chance to race Michael in some epic duels. He gave me that opportunity. I remember Suzuka 1994 as one of the greatest races of my life, and Adelaide! Sometimes you upset me, Michael, with the things you said, and I probably upset you too, by crashing into you! But all that is unimportant now. All that matters is that you recover and come back to your family. Wishing you all the goodwill in the world, Michael.

Damon Hill

Dear Michael, first of all I am so very sorry that you have found yourself in this situation, sorry for your family, lead by Corinna and all the pain they must be experiencing as you make your recovery. When I reflect on our racing together I am filled with a number of emotions. This is because I met 3 Michaels during our time racing together. First of all the family man, remember when we ended up riding horses whilst taking time off in Australia, near to Cairns? or the after party in Hockenheim when we ended up singing karaoke together? Petra went in the pool at the end of the night! The racer, unbelievably committed and undeniably the fastest of our generation and that’s not taking into account all the records broken along the way! The blunt sportsman! On reflecting I feel it wouldn’t be correct not to acknowledge the few differences of opinion that we had along the way! I will always remember Spa 98 when you arrived at my garage during the race dragging Jean Todt as he tried to stop you entering the McLaren garage! Racing against you brought out the best in all of us, I can say without fear of contradiction that your talent, your commitment and the support of your nearest and dearest took you to a level that most of us could only dream. You gave my career credibility and made me work harder, drive faster and achieve more than I would have done with lesser competition. I have always admired your speed and commitment and I look forward to being able to reminisce over a Bacardi and coke about how the kids today don’t know how difficult we had it in our day ! Michael, I am thinking of you and your family, praying that this situation can be over and life can return to normal. With my greatest respect, DC.

David Coulthard

Very, very moving... oh dear. Thank you for posting this.

Good stuff, some very nice, heart felt messages of support for the great Schumi in there...

:)

4 months under, good news he's becoming alert, hope it's just progressive recovery from here on

I still like to believe he regrets "the" incidents.

Aryton would not regret, he used to make it quiet clear he would not back off for anyone.

Both Legends for Mine. :)

Saw it shared by FB friends and knew it would be due to the source. Just waited for it to be confirmed. That's one of the reasons I've not been sharing news anymore myself. So many crap news stories that just seem to be so the pap can sell a photo and that they can fill a few lines of text up with to get a link running on social media. Horrible usage of the situation by those parties, I'm not giving them views.

Anyways, just reading the false news about his wake up tell you it's crap.
He already been awake, not a lot, maybe 30 sec the first day, maybe it's 1h/day now, maybe it's 10min.
It's not a movie, he will not wake up tomorrow, walk and go at the next gp, it's a very long process. His family and close friends are going good to help him and we can only wait and think about him.

Yeah, even with an almost immediate wake up, I've known and seen a person slowly have to learn to do everything again like a toddler, learn to walk, talk, hold their bladder, etc. It's not pretty and your description is perfect: It's not a movie.

Look up the name "Ricky Ashworth +speedway" on google and you may see what it could be like. It is not a short process.

according to Reuters he's no longer in a Coma and has left the French Hospital

Yes I saw the news on NTV the say he has left the hospital in grenoble (change to a hospital more near to his home) and he is not more in coma :)
Yea he is still a fighter :)

This is great news after such a long time in the dark.
I'd like nothing more than to see Michael recover 100% and grow old with his kids.

He was in coma for 4 months, since in April he already had conscious moment, he's been making progress since then and now he's going to work to get in shape, the difference between 4 months & 6 months in coma is important and can make a big difference in term of recovery.

Nice. We've already lost a great deal of decent drivers, would be nice to have one of the best. Enjoy his retirement.

This is the news I've been waiting for in a while, I jumped up and cheered when I heard the news! Once he's rehabilitated to a good enough stage, it would be great to see him attend an F1 race to do something like wave the checkered flag or something like that.

Keep fighting Michael!

Has any news source said exactly how he is doing? Talking/walking/anything? Out of a coma doesn't mean he is better by any stretch. If he had enough brain damage, he might have to learn to walk/talk again. Granted, I could have just missed those articles about it as well.

Only that he is on a rehab program, which I find positive... It means there IS something left to work with.

Here in Denmark there was a girl, who crashed in a car at the age of 18, she was totally wiped off... Parents were asked to consider organ donation and such... She was pretty much declared brain-dead... But then there suddenly was some brain activity... Time was running out, according to the doctors (doctors were later questioned in their overall judgement, but that's not the point here). This girl had to re-learn how to walk, talk, eat - everything! Even controlling her saliva. She is now 21 years old and pretty much normal. She has finished collage and is starting at the university in Aarhus this September I reckon. She had cerebral haemorrhage, like Michael... She had two operations to release excess pressure, like Michael.

She was put in a rehab program and got her to where she is now. A documentary was made about the situation, the woeful judgement of the doctor staff, her story and such. It's called "Pigen, der ikke ville dø" or The girl resisting to die.

The fact that Michael is put in such rehabilitation program I think, is positive.

The Schumacher-family, sadly has made clear that they don't want to give much, if any, updates of his progres... That I find a bit selfish... The guy has affected millions of people over the world who is concerned to some extent of his state.
"Yeah but they have to comprehend the shock..." they've had half a year to adjust to the situation. The fans deserves better I think.

I agree its positive, just find it odd he is going to rehab is all we hear.

The best thing they can do if you consider the stupidity of the media crowd.

Not selfish at all, it's their right. It's also their right to have privacy. Chances are he's not the same person and may very well never be. There was a boxer to had brain bleed last year. He went from being a world class athlete to not being able to dress and feed himself. This isn't some reality t.v show.

Which came first the chicken or the egg? Which came first the closed attitude or the doctor-disguised journalists?

All I wrote above is subjective, not factual - I thought that was clear with all the "I think"'s...
I choose to look at it in a positive way... It can still go both ways.

Everyone has a right for their own dignity, being a famous sportsman doesn't mean they forgo their human rights.

To be honest, now he is on recovery, it is not really any of our business about the details. He is recovering some place.... that is all we should know for now. No doubt some tosser will find them and snap a picture just to put on a tabloid front page, that stuff makes me sick.

For sure! I'm not saying they should put him on plinth saying "look, how he's drooling, world!"... But they could be much, much better of giving thumbs up or thumbs down... If he is going to be a veggie be open about it, instead of dragging it out till a paparazzi finally will get the shot for shock and ave... Oh well different approaches I guess :)

It is still none of our business if he can't talk, walk or speak.

A relayive of mine had similar accident. IC pressure very high released as well with surgery. He was not in coma for such long and had to undergo rehab.
He didn't get to remember people at first but he recovered 99%. He has risk of epileptic attacks as sequel.

It is clear that Michael is out of coma. It is not very difficult to imagine either that he is not by far fully OK yet. Otherwise we would have seen some more information.

However I am confident on his recovery which I think that will be fast. Fuerza Michael!
